A jacket that ends where your waist actually is.
Two-piece sets are where plus-size sizing quietly falls apart, and the jacket is usually the culprit. Cropped shrugs are graded from a straight-size block: the body gets wider as the size goes up, but the length barely moves. The hem that was meant to sit below the waist ends up across the fullest part of the bust, and every time you lift your arms it climbs another few centimetres and stays there. If that jacket also has buttons or a hook, the closure sits under tension all day, pulling into a horizontal crease and opening in a line of small gaps. Underneath, the second problem: a waist seam drafted for a shorter torso lands high, above your natural waist, so the skirt starts flaring from the ribcage and the whole dress tents outward from under the bust instead of falling from the narrowest point. And a sleeveless bodice cut with a shallow armhole presses into the underarm and shows your bra band the moment you reach for something.
Aleah is built the other way round. The bolero has no closure at all — two straight edges that hang free — so there is nothing to fasten, nothing to strain and nothing to gape across the bust; the jacket sits over you instead of trying to close around you. Its hem finishes just below the natural waist, level with the point where the skirt's flare begins, so the two pieces meet without a strip of pulled bodice fabric showing between them. The three-quarter sleeve stops at mid-forearm, past the widest part of the upper arm, so the sleeve hem rests on the narrower part rather than gripping the fullest one. And the dress underneath carries its waist seam at the natural waist, with a full A-line skirt whose width comes from the cut rather than from stretch — it clears the hip and falls, rather than tenting from the ribs.
Why it works
- Open-front bolero with no closure: nothing to button means nothing to strain or gape across the bust, and no horizontal pull line at the fullest point.
- Jacket hem below the natural waist: it ends where the skirt's flare starts, so the two layers meet cleanly instead of leaving a band of tight bodice on show.
- Three-quarter sleeve to mid-forearm: the sleeve hem lands past the fullest part of the upper arm, so it rests rather than grips.
- Waist seam at the natural waist: the skirt begins to flare at the narrowest point of the torso, not under the bust, so the fabric falls instead of standing away from you.
- Full A-line skirt cut with real sweep: the width is in the pattern, not in the stretch, so it moves past hip and thigh without pulling or riding up when you walk.
- Side seam pockets set into the flare: they sit in the loose part of the skirt below the hip, so they lie flat instead of being pulled open.
Fit note
Aleah is cut relaxed rather than fitted, so most people are comfortable in their usual size. Of the two pieces the bolero is the closer fit — if you carry most of your width through the bust and upper arm, take the set one size up and the sleeves will sit loosely rather than close to the arm. The dress fabric is soft and matte rather than stiff, so the skirt moves with you instead of holding its own shape, and the hem sits at mid-calf. Wear the bolero open; it is drafted to hang that way and closing it is not the intended look. Available in White, Blue and Pink. Sizes M to 4XL.
